K-4 Classroom Music

Music is considered part of the core academic curriculum in all Belmont elementary schools and is an important part of the school culture in each building. Our curriculum places a heavy emphasis on singing and making music in a variety of, while also focusing on the key music literacy skills that serve as foundational knowledge for students as they advance through the middle and high school music programs. The overarching goals of our K-4 Music program are to provide students with skills and experiences that will lead to successful long-term participation in music, and to instill them with enthusiasm and a love for making music.

Wellington School Winter "Informance" (January, 2014)

Kindergarten and Grade 1 classes receive 30 minutes per week of General Music instruction during the school day. Students in Grades 2-4 attend two 30-minute General Music classes per week. In addition, students in Grade 4 have the option to enroll in the Instrumental Music Program. These students leave their regular classrooms once per week to attend a 30-minute group lesson, which is in addition to their two General Music classes.

Saturday Morning School

For over 30 years, Saturday Morning Music School (SMMS) has helped to enhance the level of instrumental instruction available to our students. Students in Grades 4-6 can enroll in SMMS to receive an additional small-group lesson (taught by a specialist on their instrument) and to participate in a variety of small and large ensemble experiences.
